Decide upon a certain amount of days each week to exercise, and stick to that schedule no matter how tempting it may be to make excuses. If you have an emergency that prevents you from working out one day, schedule another day to make up for it, and make sure you don't miss it.

Not only do you risk joint and muscle damage, dehydration and heart problems, by pushing yourself too hard, you'll also reach an anaerobic state, where fat is no longer being metabolized.
